I’ve decided to venture into something off the beaten Broadway path this week. Since High School, I’ve been a major Indigo Girls fan. I love their sound, lyrics, and the fact that I can listen to them in any setting. Road trips, chillin, emotional turmoil - these gals have seen me through a lot. They’re the ultimate feel-all music for me. Maybe it comes from growing up near San Francisco?

I got to see an Indigo Girls concert at Summer Stages in Central Park last week with two of my faves Joey and Karyn. Summer Stages is hosted by the City Parks Foundation and works to bring free art festivals and music to the park. The last time I went to a Summer Stages event was during the New York City black out of 2003. It was another Indigo Girls concert and, by the time everyone got to the park, the entire city had lost power. Luckily, the concert was running on power generators and they played till the sun went down. Then they bused everyone out of the park to join all the other starving and powerless New Yorkers... Quite an adventure to see two gals playin’ guitars! The Indigo Girls even volunteered to come back and play another concert for all the people who couldn’t make it into the city - just classy that way.

We had such a great night singin’ along and feelin’ those juicy ballads. I’m not sayin’, but I’m just sayin’, the ladies in the crowd were much more friendly to Karyn then Joey and me. But some of those songs just crank the ol’ rib cage open, yank out your heart and throw it in a blender. Reminded me of my angsty college days harmonizing with those guitar gals and trying to figure it all out. They’re one of the rare groups - I actually know every word to their songs.

There I am in younger days, star gazing,
Painting picture perfect maps of how my life and love would be
Not counting the unmarked paths of misdirection
My compass, faith in love's perfection
("Love’s Recovery")

Come on… poetry. That’s some good stuff my friends.

They actually just came out with a new album: “Poseidon and the Bitter Bug.” It’s great and comes with an additional acoustic version of all the songs. If you’re not already into them, get into them. And start making memories to this amazing music.

So HIT it ladies!

Ummmmmm, they are incredible and did you know a reading of a musical of their music is in the works?!?! It's true- I've seen them like 12 times in concert. I know every harmony. I quoted The Wood Song on my college year book. Yep. And I like boys- who knew?
Love you Paul! Hope I see you soon! <3 <3 <3
