Hi Everybody,

Happy New Year! Well, this week is doubly sad for me. As you all know Gypsy is closing this coming Sunday January 11th. I am beyond sad that this experience will be over. To add insult to injury I was diagnosed with a throat infection (tracheitis) and advised by my doctor not to do the gala performance of A Little Night Music on Monday, January 12th. Adding the rehearsal schedule and demanding vocal performance of the concert on top of my last 8 shows of Gypsy would be too much strain and could really exacerbate the infection. I am devastated that I won't be able to participate in this evening. I have been looking forward to this for months and I feel terrible to have let my friend Scott and the Roundabout Theater Company down. I am very grateful to Jill Paice for stepping in. I am sure she will be fantastic! Steve (my hubby) will still be performing and I am sure the evening will be an incredible success. I am very sad that I won't be able to be a part of it.

I just wanted to thank you all for making 2008 such an incredible year for me. Your kind words of support mean more than you may know. The magic that is Gypsy will never be repeated. I am so grateful to have had this experience and even more grateful that I have been able to share it with wonderful people like you. I hope that 2009 brings all of you the joy that you have brought me.

XOXO,
Laura

Ms. Benanti -
I just want to thank you for a performance which finally made the title role truly moving for me - as opposed to performances in many revivals I've seen both on film and stage, you made Louise's transformation somewhat foreseeable, and more importantly, entirely human and entirely in the same character as the original personality. I was lucky enough to take home three actual souvenirs from the show: an apple from the "salute to the garden of eden," the letter (which I'd bet was written as a character exercise, and is all the more real for it) which June leaves and Mme. Rose destroys, and my somewhat signed program. However, along with the performances of Mr. Gaines and Ms. LuPone, I hold your interpretation of Gypsy to be one of the most valuable gifts I have ever left a theatre with. Thank you, and may your efforts always be justly appreciated.

AGH! I was so hoping to see the show before it closed. DAMN the west coast and being so far away!
I'm sorry to hear about your throat. Take care of yourself!
Much encouragement and hopes for you!
