I have been told for show auditions that ask for a cut from a song, to just start at the beginning and let them stop you.. Is this principle the same for college auditions? Or should I definitely…Continue

I cna't WAIT for amazing teachers that still are professional and not, "I did this 30 years ago!" And I looked up Casey, and he's an AMDA alumni... That's kinda rad. (I've noticed a handful of teachers are, Chryssie Whitehead amongst them for dance in LA) Haha, and a diva... Omigod. But, hey, if he makes you push yourself then he's doing his job. When at ASU, I HATED hearing that classes were easy and that teachers were easy,,, Not gonna help you grow as a performer, kthx.
For the BFA- Yeah, that was what my thought process is becoming... With my luck, they'll say I have to do all 4 years (or 2 1/2 FULL calendar years) for that and, frankly, I don't want to graduate at 23 and go to auditions where girls your age ATM will be there. Ew. I'll just tell me mom when I come home for Thanksgiving that I asked around and was told just to stay where I am. Because it's true like you said... Auditions don't look at what degree you have or hell, even where you went... If you have talent you have talent.
As for housing in lovely New York... I can deal with roaches as I had them in my dorm at ASU (but they flew, buzzed and liked to nestle at the foot of my bed and wake me up at 1 AM.. THAT was not fun...) and just become that paranoid freak who always checks her bedding, haha. And. DAMN that's really trippy about Strat! "Yeah, a old guy used to live here..." "What happened?" "He died in here." Though I think that and the bugs and the crazies is a good payoff to be studying where you are and what you are.
Eff, now part of me is just like, "Just go to NYC now!" lol.
i spoke with my advisor who emailed me a flyer thing for Broadways New Voices... of 21 people, 8 are from AMDA, others from CAP21, Marymount, CCM, U of Mitch, NYU Tisch, New School... But AMDA has always has the most alumni for the past few years.
I'm so frickin' excited to be constantly busy and on the go. I'm considering doing the BFA program for musical theatre (though probably not a lot of my current credits will transfer over) and do a full year 1/2 in LA and the rest in NYC. But, that's a shitload of money... haha. I can barely afford now. :(
...Make it be October! I wanna start already! or September so i can get my housing/roommate info.
Speaking OF, where are you living? Strat or the other that escapes me? I've heard one of them houses crazies and has sewer roaches. Eeep.
p.s. Do you have facebook? Youuu should friend request me.
not to sound crazy... but... you were accepted to NYU. NYU Tisch. And you choose AMDA? Are you fricking insaneee?! haha.
okay, but seriously.
i'm glad it's a hard training... thing and keeps you busy. finally!
how do the demos go the first day? we were told at the auditions Q&A that you sing for voice teachers and are placed accordingly, and then dance and are also placed. (ew. beginner for everythinggg!)
oh, and fun fact... my advisor read my notes... interview- all 5's, which apparently hardly happens. and my judicator said I had a "musical voice"... whatever that means. and my acting prof at ASU who refused to let me read her letter of recc. basically said I "show a great deal of potential to succeed..."and ranked me top 5% of the year. and there were A LOT of really good kids in my class. aaand then she retired. sad.
but. yes. i'm so excited to start, you have no idea.
I wish I had that kinda talent for Tisch, haha! But, sadly, I'm in the "she has potential we can work with" catagory not the "She's already really good, let's make her better" one. =)
Yayyyy NYU.
Girls sang "On My Own"?... Wow. I feel slightly better...
I shall do some song research, decide their learnability, and get back to you.
And people who drop their first year clearly don't want it then. I know for a fact I won't drop out solely because how hard I've worked already. I decided the end of my freshman year here I was done.
Taping the audition? Eeep.... And was there an interview? AND. Talent scholarship... Faaancy.
I'm gonna be "that petite blonde girl who looked like Caissie Levy... I remember nothing about her." Overdone monologue (hell, I'm tempted to use my "Butterflies Are Free" semi-comedic standby... Gotten a few laughs...). Popular song thanks to the revval cast.
I haven't even audition yet! lol. I spoke with a woman in Admissions for a good half hour (my poor phone bill!) and basically she was all, "Just audition April 18th and go to Open House the day before." Gee, there's a thought. So now it's next month, eeek! I have my song choice (Frank Mills... Over-done NOW but it is easy, showcases my abilities, and is a good contrast from my monologue... Which I've yet to find and am just thinking of doing Nina's actress one from Chekov's "The Seagull".)
I'm just a BIT worried about missing open house and rescheduling... My dad's recovering from surgery complications but we'll see how things go as time passes. (I know he won't want to go sit for too long and he can't walk or be on his feet too long, so my mama and I plan to road trip there.) Plus, my dad still thinks that with a degree in perforance (actually, a certificate in performance), that I'm just going to waitress and that wanting to be an actress is a silly idea... Oh, and Admissions Lady totally got me on that one. "I wanted to major in dance but minored and was unhappy. He thought dance wasn't a stable career no matter how good you or your training is."
Question- how on Earth are you affording the school?? Aside from scholarships, I mean.
Geez, girls like you are living the dream I had 2 years ago... Starting a 2 year program at 20 or possibly 21 makes me feel so lame, even though I could do the intergrated progrma in a year and a semester... Still. I think of Caissie Levy starring in Rent at 20, my age now, and my heart drops. (...though I KNOW not every performer did a 2 year program... blah bah blah.)
... AHHHH! SO excited for you!!
So how was open house and everything?! I wanna knowwww!
