I Am A...
Fan, Actor, Singer, Dancer, Student
About Me:
Where should I start? Im a 17 year old musical theater and play lover. The dancing, the butterflies on opening night, costumes, stage make up, getting into character, warming up your singing voice... EVERYTHING about theater make me fall in love every single time I step on stage. Its a love affair I NEVER want to stop. Not a day goes by where I dont put on my favorite showtunes and performing the whole musical right in my room... or wherever the heck I am; I have NO shame! =) Nothing puts me in a better mood. Honestly, I have a passion for theater like no other. Im striving to perfect myself at my art. I am currently taking voice lessons. I am running low on money but IF I had it I'd be taking dance lessons and acting lessons. Everyday Im not in work getting paid is one less day I learn a new dance routine or improve my improv. But that doesnt stop me. I WILL achieve my dreams someday.

BUT, aside from all that Im just a normal teenage girl. I love to read, watch movies, take pictures of friends and family, learn new things, have long deep serious talks, laugh... Im pretty much up for anything. I LOVE LOVE LOVE meeting new people so never be hesitant to add or to message me!

It says so in my profile, but I really want to see BOUNCE, Stephen Sondheim's probably-last musical. It's at the Public Theater this Fall, and it all depends on whether I can get a job and get the money.

Concerning the jaw-clenching: ...I really don't know. I don't know anyone who had that problem. I guess my only advice would be to find a way to not stress as much. That doesn't help worth nothing, but there ya' go.

"You sound EXACTLY like my voice teacher."

Thank you!

But don't worry: if you practice enough, you'll get to a point where you open your throat very naturally, and, eventually, can't really do the thing improperly, comfortably.

But enough about that: is there anything opening on Broadway next season you're looking forward to seeing?

It sounds as if you're not opening your throat enough, and not taking deep enough breaths.

Here's a hint: do some singing exercises (do re mi fa so la ti do and then back down, maybe), and when you breathe, open your mouth and throat wide, as if you're yawning. That'll give you a nice, deep sound (like the sound you hear from singers who have to fill a huge huge concert hall).

Also, when you breathe, be sure to draw breath from your stomach (so that you can see your stomach pushing out to get the breath), and not from your chest (which produces a shallow, nasal sound).

At the moment, your singing is too nasal, but those two techniques should really help.

And drink lots of water, warm (cold constricts your vocal chords).

Although your audio kept stopping, I can tell you have a really good Broadway musical type of voice. Since you live in Orlando, did you ever work or intern for Disney.
My daughter worked as a college intern this winter in costuming at "On with the show" and "Beauty and the Beast" at Hollywood Studios. Now she wants to move to Orlando. She says people are really nice there.

Good luck with your singing!

It sounds like you and your teacher are on the right track. I actually think that once you work out some issues with breath that you might be a soprano rather than an alto. That's where the tamber of your voice lends itself. One of my students started like that and now she is hitting high C's without a problem. Keep up the good work! I look forward to hearing more. :)
