This is so not life at all...

Trying to dance with a dance injury...is not really fun. You rest and do the exercises...and then get hurt again. And it makes you think, "What now?"

Because if everyone keeps saying you don't have the right feet for pointe, where are you ever going to go in ballet? Of course you'll keep studying ballet, because you love it -- and let's be honest, what sort of dancing can you do if you don't know ballet? Nothing. And it's not like you were planning on becoming the next big thing at the ABT -- you've known you don't have the body since you were ten. But everyone else is up in the air, they've all been put on pointe, even the girls who need some more practice, and where are you? Why aren't you there? Because someone told you you can't do it? So you prove them wrong!

But every time you try, you literally fall down.

So where are you going? If they think you dance too much without proper care now, you won't be able to dance later...well, what then? And if they think you study dance in college -- again, you weren't planning on becoming a ballet major or something, but this is your life --, you won't be able to dance later. And later and later and later.

And if you were only fourteen when it happened, why did you spend ten years working for this?

And if you love it, but you can't have it, who are you going to be?

"I don't want dancers who want to dance, I want dancers who need to dance." - Balanchine

"Mamma Mia!" National Tour and "Camelot" Student Matinee

Wow, it's been a while since I saw Mamma Mia! and Camelot (last year, ha ha).

Can I just say that I hate student matinees? I hate how ignorant my classmates are, I hate how they think classic theatre is "weird", I hate how they just text messaged during the entire LIVE PERFORMANCE. One girl even said, "Ugh, Gwenevere--" (oh goodness, spelling error! I haven't a clue as to how to spell her name!) "--was so annoying. I feel so bad for that girl." Yes, because she's an… Continue

"Fiddler On The Roof" National Tour 10/25/09

Considering that I saw this on Sunday and it is now Thursday, it is quite evident that I have no time on my hands at all anymore to sit down and write even a tiny review on my BroadwaySpace. So this will have to be quick, because, alas, algebra homework is calling my name...

...Fiddler On The Roof was my first Broadway show, way back in March 2005. There was so much that I guess I just didn't catch when I first saw it in NYC; I was so confused by intermission on Sunday! I… Continue

Summer 2009...so far

Again, I'm really not one to blog about much other than theatre, but here I go anyway:

Well, I started off my Summer by going to school for a few hours everyday for two weeks--oh, the irony? No, I was rehearsing for the second-annual SJA (my school) Summer cabaret. The week after I auditioned for a community theatre production of The King And I and did not receive a role...but they encouraged me to come see the show! Um, what?! Later that night (No, I am not going to take you through… Continue

Second-Annual Summer Revue At School

It's over now. :(

Last year, it was June and July rehearsals and the show in early August. This year, it was two or three May rehearsals and TWO INTENSE WEEKS of memorization and aching feet (character shoes equal h*ll) in June. My scenes this year included Bear in Duet For Bear And Dog, and the narrative style of Peter Pan. Basically, we were storytellers of the first two chapters of Peter Pan, every now and then stepping out as the characters (I ended up… Continue

"Spring Awakening" National tour 6/17/09

Revisited, six days later...

Yes, we got eight trillion understudies. Julie Benko for Wendla, Lucas A. Wells for Hanschen, and Krystina Alabado for Anna.

Now, I've seen some great understudies (Jay Armstrong Johnson as Mark in A Chorus Line, Beth Curry as Brooke Wyndham in Legally Blonde), and some...not so great ones (Jim Walton as Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys And Dolls--ugh!). Julie Benko was a good Wendla. Her voice was very sugary-sweet,… Continue

Ahh! Freshman year for the both of us! I really like my program here. It's practically all music based which before coming here I was completly unaware of (and unprepared for..haha) But I feel like I'm learning a semester's worth of music everyday which is great! Sadly I haven't gotten into any shows, but I was one of 5 freshman to get into the ensemble of a Roger and Hammerstein concert revue! It was a one performance thing with only 3 rehearsals, but it was SO much fun! Next year will definately be more busy for me and I'm so excited!

Congrats for getting into the fall show! Don't fret about getting only ensemble because you're a freshman. Believe me, I'm in that same boat right now. Freshman year is just all about showing your dedication, trust and that you're willing to work hard. We just had a scandal that someone that is an ACTING SCHOLAR in our prorgam was just charged and dismissed from our school from stealing money from our theatre fraternity! :X Like I said, building trust is key right now. Lol, But break a leg for Fiddler! :) What are you going to audition with? Are you going to try to go for a certain role??

I feel as if I have just written a book..haha! but keep me posted! :D

No. However, if I hear a song a few times, I can then follow along with it. :)

Thank God I'm starting school next month... I can't wait to learn how to read music and sight-sing, and dance... But my acting class will be boring...

YAY for you getting better!!

Hi Mia!

I´ve seen that one of your favourite actresses is Leigh Ann Larkin. I create a group for her at Broadwayspace.com and would like to invite you to join and perhaps become friends!

Weeellll....

My dad's health is getting worse and he was declined for a new heart. However, his cardiologist is going to bat and telling the council who decides who goes on it, and saying, "Look. he knows the risk." They're afraid of cracking his sternum open again and him not making it. But it's better that we try at least than him staying on meds and basically withering away.

But at the same time, he wants me to go. Not fully OK with it (he would be if he wern't as sick), but he knows I have to do this for me and go after my dreams.

So I'm on the fence. Obviously I want to go, but at the same time, it freaks me out to be even an hour flight (hour before landing, hour or so after... so 3 hours from home home) away... Ugh.

Well I had called just to see how we were notified again and a gal looked me up and say I was pending. So she looked up what that meant and started talking and was like, "Oh, and you've been accepted!" I kept my cool and said thank you and whatnot, and then hung up. THEN I jumped around and screamed like a madwoman. And told my daddy. And called my mama. And posted it on Facebook. And texted all my friends.

Because it's the two-year integrated program, that means those accepted the Admissions people feel that they have the potential to be ready to professionally audition in 2 years (or, one FULL calendar year and 4 months. I like that idea). And it's the same program Levy did... And a guy who was a BFA student talking with us in a holding studio before we auditioned was talking about his fav. shows and mentioned Hair. I said I saw it over summer and he mentioned Levy, Isaid, "Omigod, I love her!" then his eyes got all wide, haha. "That's who you remind me of! I kept thinking there was someone you reminded me of!"

It's the curly blonde hair I had, I swear. ...And the fact I could be her cousin. (minus her nose. Which, really, I like Jewish noses. They make you stand out more.)

My dad doesn't want me going, duh. But AMDA is totally willing to pull strings for me if I have to get home at the drop of a hat. I get to file for FASFA today... I got 35 hundred from AMDA in a scholarship, and if I get 65 hundred from FASFA, I only need 14 grand. If I take that and do HALF of that in student loans, I only need to actually get 7 grand myself as my parents will cover housing... Same price as ASU, haha.

Eeeeee!!!!
