I Am A...
Fan, Actor, Stage Manager, Writer, Director, Designer, Producer
About Me:
30 plus years in Community and semi professional theatre in eastern Canada. Author of 10 original musicals including:

"My Town, My Guy And Me" - a musical based on the hit recordings of 60's pop star Lesley Gore. A fictional re-telling of "It's My Party" and "Judy's Turn To Cry" outlining what might have happened at Lesley Gore's "Sweet Sixteen Party" when Judy showed up wearing Johnny's ring. In the same light as "Grease", "Beehive" and "Leader of the Pack".

Lesley Gore flew from New York to eastern Canada in 2004 to attend a performance and described it as "Wondrous - It came together beautifully".

My Town has had 6 amateur productions in Canada but has never had an "American" or "Professional Premiere". Seeking same.

and

"Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon" - a musical based on the Marjorie Kellogg novel (Mrs Kellogg gave me permission to adapt the material shortly before her death and her estate has honoured that agreement) and the Liza Minnelli movie of the same name.

"Junie" is about tolerance and acceptance. It looks at the make-up of a modern day family in today's world when family is not always defined by a bloodline.

"Junie" had a professional reading at THEATRE BUILDING CHICAGO November17/08.

Finally took the time and organized most of the theatre projects I have been involved in. Boring stuff for most people but it does put it all in perspective. Looking over the list I've done some pretty interesting stuff. Quick summery: I like doing the lesser known musicals more than the mega hits. I learn more directing them then I do from directing a cookie-cutter show... Mack And Mabel, Two By Two, Walking Happy, The Happy Time, Here's Love - those kind of… Continue

Hey,
Wow, it was a really long message :)
We have different productions in Russia, mostly really famous Broadway and West End shows, and only in Moscow. And only one at a time. At the best times there were only 2-3 musicals at a time. As far as I know right now there are only one big musical which plays 6 days a week in Moscow – “Beauty and the Beast”. Before was “Mamma Mia”, and the “Cats”. Other big musicals before these as far as I remember were: “42nd Street”, “Chicago”, and some famous French musicals like “Notre-Dame de Paris” and “Romeo and Juliet”. The French musicals are very popular in Russia.
Of course small theatres, including State theatres (most of them State and non-for-profit) produce some musicals too, and some of the productions are really good. Like, I saw a couple of times “Hello Dolly” in St. Petersburg Theatre of Musical Comedy. But these even not limited engagements. Its like 1-2 days once in 1-2 months. But better than nothing.
We had first big musical in Russia several years ago which called “Nord Ost”. It was really popular and was doing well, until it was attacked by terrorist. I am sure it was shown in American news too. It was one of the biggest terrorist acts in Russia. A lot of people die there and the musical was closed. Since that moment people in Russia (well, most of them) associating musicals with afraid of terrorist attack. And since that time there weren’t any BIG Russian musical productions.
I visited “Nord Ost” (which’ can be translated like “North West”) several weeks before that attack and it was really painful and scary for me watching this drama on TV live for 3-4 days. It was really great musical, I’d say the level of “Wicked” or “Billy Elliot”. They had even full size plane landing on the stage!
So that’s what I can say :)
See you on Broadway!

Hey,
Thanks for so interesting comment!
Yeah, our world is small. And although not everyone in the world likes or even knows about Broadway musicals, still there are a lot of people in every country who likes it and dream to see it live someday (I am not talking about being a part of it).
So I consider myself lucky enough, because I am not only saw a lot of Broadway shows for such a short time, but also I am kinda part of it, because I am doing the videos about Broadway.
But, yeah, economics is really bad now and I can’t go to the shows as often as I would like to. And not only me, as we can see on the example of all these closing shows. But as I said in my video, I hope everything’s coming up roses. The sun will come out tomorrow, it always did. ;)
See you on Broadway!

ohn, thanks for the comment! "Gillface" is a video by David McGinnis that is a 15-minute musical comedy. David and I have been partners on various projects since high school and I wrote the music & lyrics for this project. It's a fun piece with a message, tolerance. It's up for several festivals and so we can't show the complete piece online until the festival process is complete. But as soon as possible I will post the complete video piece here on BroadwaySapce.

The 'Lesley Gore' and "Junie Moon' projects are very interesting....
