I Am A...
Fan, Actor, Singer, Dancer, Writer
About Me:
I live for the performing arts. And I've been saying that for years, but only recently have I realized just how true it is.

Truth be told, I don't know how I got started with all of this. It just always seemed like the natural thing to do. My father was a middle school English and theatre teacher, and as a young girl I sat in on their rehearsals and found the process just as fascinating as the eventual performances. The expression, the involvement, the art of it all...I had to be a part of it.

So I did all those things that theatrical kids do...well, most of them...I always look back and wish I'd done more. Taken more dance classes, voice lessons, gone on more auditions...went to a performing arts high school...etc. It was all I ever really wanted to do. But I think my parents were afraid of depriving me of a "real" childhood and I guess I agreed with them because none of us could have known any better. In retrospect, I'm not sure who we thought we were kidding; I wouldn't have had a "real" childhood or a "real" adolescence anyway. I was always the oddball, the proverbial "last one picked," always the dumbest of the smart kids, the girl with So Much Potential who could Do So Much Better If Only She Tried. Sure, I had friends--actually, great friends--but there were so many times I felt completely alone.

And you can say I'm not talented or not creative, but I will tell you that my talent and creativity are my two greatest assets because they have been there for me during those times of fear, depression, and isolation. And what's more, I've been told that my work and my art has touched other people as well...inspired them, entertained them, brightened their days, put something into perspective for them. That's what I want to continue. Because the personal benefits of what I do as a performing artist will only last me as long as I live...and I want the things I create to last longer, reach farther, touch more people's hearts and minds.

That, and I like the attention. Well, to put it more specifically, I like having control over the sort of attention I receive, and the amount of it. I don't need disgusting tabloid fame. No paparazzi except at designated venues. In a perfect world, I'd be able to win a Tony and still go out to Chili's with my high school friends to celebrate.

All I care about is looooove!

Ok, so it's getting late. 11:18 PM is late for me. I'm not a night owl. So if this is getting ramble-tastic, I'll change it later. Then again, I'll probably leave it. It probably paints me as a real person. Bah, that sounds pretentious...see, now I'm doubting everything I type. That's why I change my bio things so often. This one I'm keeping. KEEPING! I swear!

More about me...I like coffee and blueberries and birds...and writing songs. And having entire conversations in song lyrics and Homestar Runner quotes. And using abbreviations.

That's all.

My Favorite Writer/Composer:
I'm a total sucker for classical musical theatre, vaudeville and Tin Pan Alley--Rodgers & Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, George M. Cohan, the Gershwins, etc. I also love the dark and sexy vibe of Kander and Ebb, which ultimately led me back in time to the genius known as Kurt Weill. Contemporary favorites...Lin Manuel-Miranda is going to be a legend, I'm sure of it...Stephen Schwartz works wonders...and so does the other Stephen, you know the one. And last but not least, Lady GaGa. She is meant to be writing, directing, and performing on Broadway, and when she does it will be brilliant.

Haha, actually, I might come to NY this summer and record some stuff with Blessing Offor...you know him? Look him up on myspace. Anyways...I just really like his keyboards. I would love to do something with you, too.
I showed one of my friends your page here, and she said you and I both make the same kind of music and have similar voices and similar hairstyles-- we could have a stage act together. So... I'll let you know when I'm in New York and we can get together and do some recordings if you're down.

Haha, I'm your twin and I'm the only person who consistently leaves comments on here!
I'm thinking we should do something to get famous, being lookalikes to each other...
Know how the Beatles got famous and such?

I'm also a rock and roll musician.
We should write an act for us to do together in NY and Denver.
We could premier it in Denver at Lenny's Clocktour...
I know a few ways we could get ourselves off the ground.

My email is knockonwood3x@gmail.com

I've got a few cool ideas...
and as for New York...
No idea when I'll go there!
Colorado is quickly becoming a good place to get noticed...
So I might disappear in NY, know what I mean?

Mer out!

Is Melissa Etheridge an influence of yours?
I think Disposable reminds me a bit of I'm the Only One sometimes...and then other times it reminds me of Joan Jett, it's nice simple rock.
Keep up the good work!

I'm kind of an Elton-John-y songwriter, haha.
Is that you on the guitar?
I think its awesome to meet female guitarists these days.
I play keyboards primarily, and sing.

make sure you keep gigging!

Rock on, girl!

We're lookalikes! We'll have to start a rock band together, if we ever live in the same city. I'm also a rock artist. I'm in two bands right now. One of which needs a band name! Are you any good at naming bands? It'd be cool if you'd come up with something really awesome for us :) I'll pm you my email address and you can send ideas any time you feel like it.
