omg no lea will be elfabuh! adina has hur babbee! bt kristen cud b in it. dat wud b awsum!

(I had to. CLEARLY.)

Okay, so... Generally, movies don't happen unless the show itself needs to get more money in (unless you're AWL and you want more money for Phantom...); think Rent, Hairspray, etc. Or it's if the show has been gone for awhile- Sweeney Todd, A Chorus Line...

Wicked is still going VERY strongly and as I mentioned elsewhere before, you need to get tickets months in advnce for this show... It ain't goin' anywhere. (I've got money saying it will outlive Phantom. Close damn you Phantom!)

In all seriousness and my silliness aside, I cannot see them making a Wicked movie for YEARS. Besides, it would ruin the magic of the stage show... The beautiful lighting, the goregous SCORE, the staging... Yes, it would be nice and "omg so cool!" but it would ruin the aspect of live theatre. I hold this show very close to me for a different reason than a lot of obnoxious tweens do; not because it's my "leik dream 2 be elfabuh!" (though it is haha!), but because it is a rather beautiful show technically and musically (though there are, I admit and am fully aware of, better shows). And, frankly, I get what it's like to have people not like you, have a roommate your complete opposite but is also your best friend (even if she does talk constantly about her boyfriend...), and to never be "that girl", to many peoples shock.

So to make a short story long... I can't see a movie happening for a very long time and if it does, I pray to Thepis whoever produces, casts, and directs it does it justice. No cheesy CGI effects for Defying Gravity, please. (Or I'd really loveee love a movie of the novel. Adult themes and all.)
what've you got against Phantom?
I and many others find PotO to be a rather terrible musical.

You and many others disagree with us.
how do you not like phantom...its classic broadway...the story the score...need i say more??
The story, as it's told in the Broadway show, is really weak. The score is a cheap bastardization of stolen melodies disguised to sound like real opera. The lyrics are insipid and many of them don't mean anything at all.

So, since you asked, that's why I don't like The Phantom of the Opera. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a hack.
I absolutely agree, Kasee. The show should be left alone and if they REALLY want to make a movie, make it out of the novel.
that is so tru.....need i say more???
And have been in development since it said the movie would be out in 2007. There's no movie right now.
The musical started out as a movie development deal, not a musical. It stalled and Mr. Schwartz asked to turn it into a musical instead because he loved the book. These rumors have been around since the book was written. I would love to see it as a movie; I'd be the first in line at my local theater. I think Niki had a good idea about filming it like they did the last night of RENT. I liked that version way better than the movie version. You can still get it on screen, but don't necessarily lose the technical aspects or feel of the show.

If they did make a movie (not just filmed the stage version), I cold see Kristen Chenoweth reprising her role, but I don't see Idina reprising hers. Maybe Stephanie J. Block? Maybe Kendra Kassebaum or Megan Hilty if not Kristen? Any thoughts?
They're not going to cast any of them in a movie. We'd get Mandy Moore or someone like that. One thing they need to sell a movie is a name.

Talented as all those ladies are, they will not sell tickets.
idina better...than i see no point in going to see it...she was great in it
both Kristin and Idina are far too old to play the roles now.
