Special Skills on Resumes
I'm casting a show right now, and the special skills some people list can be truly hilarious. The one most people know about is "can burp on cue", but some are very creative.
Today's winner: "Talks quickly, but can still be understood."

Chipmunk Voice. :) In my musical theatre class, we had to write a resume, and one of my friends put that as one of her special skills

My special skills are I'm a baton twirler for 8 years, I can do children's voices, I pick up music quickly (despite my not being able to completely read music), and I can do Irish, Southern, Cockney, standard British, and a sterotypical New Yorker accent... and working on French and Russian now.
Something cute that I heard Allie Trimm has is she bakes chocolate chip cookies.

I'm a competitive crossword solver. Every year, Will Shortz, the New York Times crossword editor, has a national crossword tournament. One of the best solvers in the country, Ellen Ripstein, was a baton twirler, and she got up during the talent show and demonstrated that she still has her skills at the age of 50. You can see it in the documentary "Wordplay".

On Will Swenson's resume he says: "Works well with gays."
when people ask me for special skills i tell them pointe/ballet/[insert dance style here] but thats not a special skill on a resume....

Why would you think it's not a special skill? Unless you mean you've got a separate section for dance.
I see some people who really only list a few things, or who are very general. Just "dance".
Others say "Dance - ballet, jazz, tap, ballroom".
Then there are the ones who stretch it waaaay out.
"Dance - Swing - East Coast Swing, Dance - Swing - West Coast Swing, Dance - Swing - Collegiate Shag, Dance - Swing - Carolina Shag" (Okay, we get it already!)
I had someone who not only put that she can swim - she spent several lines putting "Swimming - Butterfly, Swimming, Breast Stroke, Swimming - Australian Crawl." Because, you know, that was a really nice Crawl you did at the audition, but we wanted someone who could do the Butterfly.

i have all the kinds of classes i've taken in dance on there, but i have them like this:
Dance: Ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hiphop, theatre jazz

I put dance under "Education" and list the places i study, i don't consider it a special skill because its kind of a job requirement...

Well, as long as it's in there. Dance is kind of looked at separately from other skills. The Special Skills section usually includes accents (I got one resume from someone who not only had Standard British and Cockney. She also had Liverpool Accent and Birmingham Accent. I was really interested to see whether she was able to differentiate the two.
Sometimes, the specificity makes a difference. My new show required people who can jitterbug, and the writer was specific that she didn't want another style of swing dancing. So no Balboa, Shim-Sham-Shimmy, Collegiate Shag, etc. dancers need apply!
