Hello alll,

So i have a very important audition coming up in about a month. I am a singer who moves not a dancer who sings. However I just found out that at the general auditions there will be a dance combo to learn (nothing new there) but MANDY MOORE is going to be choreographing holy smokes oh my God. I was just wondering how you guys prepare for dance auditions?  I'm very nervous for this one know since I"m not a "Dancer" I move well enough and do stunts but ask me to do really difficult technical stuff and it'sjust a no go. since it's summer I've had a hard time getting into classes because everyone is doing intensives right now. so i've just been focusing on doing barre alone and working on my turns and fitness in general. How do you guys prepare?

thanks

Try and find somewhere that's doing drop in classes. If you live in a pretty big city, or near one, there should be a least a few studios that will offer drop in classes on a pay as you go basis. Try for ballet and jazz classes. It will really help you, ballet especially with technique. Also, there are probably some videos you could find that would help you, but they won't work as well as an actual class. I don't know where you're from, but if you're from New York, definitely try Steps on Broadway. They offer a huge variety of drop in classes at different ability levels.

For fitness, do a TON of cardio. Running, jumping rope, treadmill, and maybe try doing these while singing.

Hope I helped!
This is really important: you want to look good at the audition, but you don't want to trick them into thinking you can do something that you can't do. There's a fine art to giving a good audition even though you know you don't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting the show (an extreme exaggeration, but I think you get the point).

If you're nervous about the audition, imagine what the show will be like! You just don't want to get the job only to find that the rest of the choreography is too difficult for you, and then you make a bigger fool of yourself. But, of course, you also want to go in and give the best damn audition you can so that the director and producers think of you next time, even if you don't get this one.

But I ditto getting in as much work as you can, without overextending yourself. Best of luck!
