I want to start introducing my 5 year old nephew and 3 year old niece to the joys of broadway. I'm going to make them both their own mix cds of songs to start their appeciation/addiction young. Any suggestions that your kids love or that you think the kiddos would enjoy?

Most kids tend to enjoy Seussical the Musical. And as a kid, I enjoyed Annie ^-^
There is an album of showtunes just for kids that i grew up listening to but at the moment i can't remember the title..
All i remember was it was a CD packed with different songs from different musicals, some of the songs were from shows that 5 year olds won't really be into but the selected songs were the ones that were kid-appropriate and were the most fun to dance/sing.

if you can't find a CD like this, a few good cast recordings are, Shrek the Musical ( i bring that when ever i babysit, because kids love it) and many of the disney shows.
Yeah, especially Mary Poppins. Except for Brimstone and Trickle. I think that would creep them out. But all the others are really good, especially Seussical. If they like reading Dr. Seuss, they'll love the musical.
A good person to ask is Aaron Simon Gross. Look at the little box on the right labelled "Featured Columnists". You'll find him there. I don't think there are many musicals out there that he hasn't seen. If anyone would know really good children songs from any musical, it would be him.
There are a good number of CDs out there specifically for introducing children to showtunes.

First off the top of my head:
"Sing Happy" from Flora, the Red Menace
"Do, Re, Mi" from The Sound of Music
"Happy Talk" from South Pacific
"Little People" from Les Miserables
"Giants in the Sky" from Into the Woods
"Anything You Can Do" from Annie Get Your Gun
"Getting to Know You" from The King and I
"Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" from Shall We Dance?
"Why Am I Me?" from Shenandoah
"Where Is Love?" or "Who Will Buy?" from Oliver
can i add,

"Heart" from Damn Yankees
"We need a Little christmas" from Mame
"I got the Sun" from Annie get your gun
"My favorite things" from Sound of Music
"Seventy Six trombones" from The Music Man
"Oh what a beautiful Mornin' " from Oklahoma

there are others, but those were some of my favorites as a kid
Annie, Seussical, The disney show stufd also there is one song from Fanny that I loved when I was younger and it is called Be Kind to Your Parents it's a very funny song and i loved it , it was my first audition song also
Anything Disney, of course. But they also might like music from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Like Think Positive, Pure Imagination, or any Oompa-Loompa songs.
I teach 2-3 year olds and these are some of the songs I use during music and movement time, they LOVE it!

Steam Heat - The Pajama Game
Let Me Entertain You - Gypsy
Money, Money - Cabaret
My Name in Lights - The Boy From Oz
Ugg-a-Wugg - Peter Pan
Doin what comes Natur'lly - Annie Get Your Gun
You're the one that I want - Grease

young children love music that are up-tempo with a catchy tune/rhythm. that would be the best way to introduce broadway songs. my 2-3 year old students can do simple dance numbers to Broadway tunes now! haha.. i call 'em my broadway babies! :P
i work with kids and to get them into different musics i play disney broadway plays...also they really like hairspray because most of it is so upbeat...i grew up on annie and peter pan with mary martin and jesus christ superstar (although i didnt understand what was going on most of the time when i was little) and of course disney...my first broadway play was beauty and the beast and it was more exciting because i already knew songs from the movie and enjoyed the new songs also
This is probably just my cousin....but my 6 year old cousin is OBSESSED with Omigod you guys from LB! lolll. she knows the whole thing!
I also agree, Steam Heat would be good. So would Annie and Wicked. I got my 9 year sister's friend and her 7 year old sister into Wicked:)
