New York Casting Director Gets Heat For Twittering Inside the Audition Room

Have you guys heard about this? What do you think about a casting director using twitter during auditions? http://twitter.com/decasting

I get why people are all fired up about this, but she didn't use names when describing people or say anything malicious. When you audition you are putting yourself up there to be judged... It might not be the most moral decision to tweet in the casting room, but it makes for a more entertaining twitterverse.
I think if done in a constructive manner it would have been a really cool learning tool, but many of her tweets are just rude:

"Dear actor/prospective intern/annoyance, No need to "follow-up" on an e-mail sent last week. I got it. I'm not interested. Bye!"

“Your skirt makes me think you’re Wiccan…”

“If we wanted to hear it a different way, don’t worry, we’ll ask.”
I think it's an interesting way to get thoughts out and yes they're being judged anyway, but think about how it feels from the actor's perspective. These people have probably practiced for weeks and then they only get 16 bars or so to prove to a roomful of people that they're good enough to be cast. If you're busy texting or tweeting how can you actually see/hear what they're doing, plus what kind of respect does that show for them? True, some of them may not be good anyway, or think they're better then they actually are, but they're still human and deserve the respect that they've given you or your show by practicing their craft and coming out to audition for you.
I don't like it. I mean, I'm not like crazy against it, but I just think that casting directors should direct their full undivided attention and not having to worry about what their next Tweet is.
well from I heard it's not like she was doing this WHILE the actors were in the room and since she didn't say any names of the people who she was talking about, I think that she was just trying to be helpful and tell everyone what the difference between a bad and good audition is.
The casting directors probably need to "get a life" if they're tweeting during auditions, but it's nothing for Equity to get so testy about. Like they said in one of their tweets regarding it, "freedom of speech".
If they're tweeting during soemone's audition, that's unprofessional on their part and if I were an actor and a casting director was doing that when I was auditioning, I would be insulted, honestly.
I totally agree..
Feedback, even negative feedback would be very helpful for most people. But if these tweets aren't something you would say to their face, then they shouldn't be put online for hundreds to read. I'd say, tell the people what you think to their face, but don't be so rude about it.
Why do people tend to forget how big the internet is? Once it's out there, it's out there and there's no taking it back.

Something like this isn't helpful, it's unprofessional and rude. Giving advice and insulting people are two very different things. Talk of someone's audition is for behind closed doors, not to be shared with the world. Have I joked with my collaborators about bad auditions I've seen? Yes, of course. But I didn't start a "Bad Auditions" blog. At the end of the day, your job is to find castable performers, and tweeting during auditions is unprofessional. The audacity of someone like that. When I'm in the audition room, my cell phone goes off, unless I'm expecting an emergency call. I don't make or take calls, even between auditioners. All of my focus goes to the task at hand.

Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, but perhaps a generation raised on "reality" TV feels the right to see behind every closed door. It's not necessary.
Take a look at this:

Does this mean she's going to stop Tweeting from inside the audition room?
The public statement from both her and AEA says no more tweeting. However, it also says she intends to continue tweeting anyway. I don't know exactly how AEA can penalize her, as she's a casting director, but I can imagine it will get ugly if she keeps tweeting from the audition room.

It's just unprofessional, and it will only show less professionalism if she continues after being reprimanded.
