Hello all

Been awhile since I posted a thread on  here. Getting rid of this at the end of August since I am never on here.

I write a lot of fan fiction..  the main musical  I have been writing about is Little Shop of Horrors.  My  recent fan fiction  topic is Audrey's relationship with Orin   it's beginnings and where the violence comes into play

I am not to hugest fan of Orin's character...I'm more a fan of Seymour.   I am having trouble developing  Orin''s character for my fic   His character seems vauge to me

For those who have played  Orin

  • What are your thoughts on his character ?
  • What are your thoughts on how he treats Audrey?
  • At what point in  Audrey  and Orins's relationship  do you think the violence starts?
  • What do you think  his  home life would have been like to lead him to be violent?

Thanks in advance for alll  your help

It's important to note that violence is not just a part of his nature, it's a sexual fetish. He gets off on other people's pain. There's even a lyric comparing him to the Marquis de Sade, the man from whence the term "sadism" (or taking sexual pleasure at physically hurting someone else) comes from.

If you've ever listened to the cut song "I Found a Hobby," he sings about going to see a horror movie with his friends at an early age. The lyric then says, "And when I saw the awesome torture chamber in that flick / I found I got a hard-on while the other kids got sick." He later sings, "Some boys take dirty books to the john and give themselves a whack. / I did the same with lithographs of thumb screws and the wrack."

He talks about this sort of thing in the song "Dentist," too, so his craving for human pain has little to do with Audrey. He gets off on it, so it was probably always a part of his relationship with Audrey.
I haven't heard of the song I Found A Hobby. Is it from the movie?
No, but it's on the new broadway cast recording with Hunter Foster and Kerry Butler.
Hm, well, I like Little Shop but it's been awhile since I've seen it. Here's some ideas, though.

- Thoughts on his character - He's the definition of a sadist. As David said, he gets off on other people's pain. I don't think he's necessarily 'evil', just a little twisted in the mind.

- How he treats Audrey - I think he treats her very poorly, but probably buys her gifts or takes her out on nice dates at the same time. He has to give her some reason to stay with him, besides the fact that he has money.

- When the violence starts - As detailed in the songs "Dentist" and the deleted song "I Found a Hobby", Orin's violent behavior seems to be part of his nature and, as David pointed out, a sexual fetish. I would imagine the violence would have started early in the relationship, and probably got progressively worse as time went on.

- Home life - Well, he could have had a bad one. His parents could have abused him, neglected him, or something along those lines. Although, he could also be violent even if he lived in the happiest of homes. Since there's nothing specifically said about it in the musical, it's up for you as the fan fic author to decide. There's no right or wrong answer, and theorizing about a character's backstory can be really fun in fan fiction, so I'd say be creative with this one!

This makes me want to write some fan fiction again! I haven't written any in awhile, except for a little drabble-type piece for a contest.
I actually already started to write th fic. Go to fan fiction.net and check it out

oh and do you want to collaborate on a Producers Fic? I'm growing quite weary about writing fics inspired by Little Shop. So far I've written aboutt 5 or 6
Will do!

Hm, what do you mean by collaborate? No offense, but I've never been a huge fan of collaborating on fan fics, since they're really just fun for me and I usually put huge time commitments into them. But if you want me to help you form an idea or something, I'd be happy too. I'm actually working on a production of The Producer right now, so I'm sure there will be a lot of inspiration striking me.
I meant usually *don't* put huge time commitments into them.
