I'd just like to start of by saying, JESUS CHRIST (Superstar)!  I can't believe that I'm starting two topics in one day.  I feel like a forum hog.

Anyways, I'm looking for songs to expand my repertoire.  I can sing really any voice type, though I am primarily mezzo-soprano (though I have recently been exploring my alto and soprano sides a lot).  I'm twelve, though I could probably stretch it to looking about sixteen.  Also, I've been trying to stay away from anything belty, on good advice from Kasee; I don't want to attempt it again until I am older with better training.  Right now, if anything, I'm trying to learn how to mix, which is as close as I want to get until about age fifteen.  So, I was wondering if there are any good songs for me, based on what I described above.

Thanks for all suggestions!

Do you have any good videos or audio recordings so we ca hear your voice and better assess?
Sure. They'll be up soon :)
My advice would be, no matter what you are working on with your voice teacher, make sure that you include a nice range.
By range I mean a range of styles. Casting Directors, and your most everyone, loves a well rounded performer.
Don't limit yourself to Musical Theatre. Much of modern MT is derivative of the pop music being created at the same time, so why not acquaint yourself with the real deal. Make sure you can sing a good Beatles song along with R&H and Strouse and Adams, and a good KD Lang or Rufus Wainwright along with JRB. And also, don't forget the other direction as well, and by that I mean, Folk and Classical. You don't need an accompanist for a great Folk song. And a great Bel Canto song can get you places those Belty Green Girls might not be able to go.
You are Young. Listen to EVERYTHING, and love it all. It is ALL valid.
Whoo I rock on giving advice! haha!

Work on range, first of all. Do some soprano stuff to really strengthen your chords, some lower stuff so you don't lose that. For soprano, I suggest "Where Or When"- beautiful soprano notes but also a few lower ones thrown in. (I'm scanning over my song list... Mostly soprano ballads... oh joy.) For something lower -this is so cheesy but I love to sing it- "Lullaby of Broadway". (My teacher gave it to me and I gave her SUCH a "Wtf?" look...)

Oh, another soprnao song I really want to learn that I love is "Christmas Lullaby" by JRB. Might be challenging for a 12 year old, but...
IMHO, "Christmas Lullaby" is inappropriate for a 12-yr-old. When she's 16 or 17 a song about teen pregnancy will work, but not at 12.
Thanks for all the songs Kasee! I'll make sure to check 'em out! (Though I'm scanning over Christmas Lullaby now-- I could sing it, but obviously not believably, because of the reason David said above, lol!)
Haha, I'm not saying sing it for a concert or whatnot- Just to help expand your range is all. =)
Aw, thanks Kasee!
If you have a belt you could maybe learn 'the fire within me' from Little Women, I think its appropriate.
For soprano I'd suggest On the Steps of the palace from Into the Woods(lovely song) or Mama who bore me from Spring Awakening for something more contemporary.
For Alto I'd suggest Whatever Lola Wants from Damn Yankees, I'm not sure if thats appropriate though but I'm saying it because a middle school around here just did it.
Thank you! I love all of those suggestions! I had forgotten about Into the Woods and Damn Yankees.
Thank you! Ahhh, these are all great! Can't wait to start crackin' on 'em! And you gave me a lot of variety, which is awesome. Thanks for taking the time! :)
