This is something that happened to me a few months ago, and I am now deciding to put it up as a discussion.

I was in school and walked into my English class, where a student not in my class was talking to the teacher.  Just as she was leaving, she turned to me and asked, "Are you in drama class?"  "Yes," I replied.  "Oh," she said, "because you dress very theatrically."

This leads me to ask, do you think actors (or anyone in show business) dress a certain way?

I suppose it would help if I tell you about how I dress.  My basic outfit would be something along the lines of khakis and a shirt, usually black or red.  I do differ some times; I never wear blue jeans, but I do own two pairs of black jeans and a pair of gray jeans.  I will sometimes where white and black with the gray jeans (usually a white shirt under black short sleeves, which is actually what I was wearing that day, if I recall correctly).  A majority of times I will wear all black, which is something I hear a lot of people in show business do.  Also, I never wear sweatpants or a sweatshirt.

I mean, I like to look nice, but I never really thought of myself as dressing theatrically.

What do you guys think?

We wear a lot of black. Don't know if that has anything to do with anything.
Yeah, it's mostly black or what's considered "artsy". There's also the "looking nice" thing, too. A lot of people in basically all my classes dress nicely, except on days we're doing physcial warm-ups or whatnot- then it's the yoga pants and tee-shirts.

People know I'm a theatre major because I wear dark wash jeans, black ballet flats, a flowy or artsy-sketchy top and a hat of some sort- usually floppy and black.
being a dancer, i end up poncing about in a cami leotard, tights and short shorts all year round, with a sweatshirt on in the winter... maybe that's why peole think i'm crazy
i'm not fashionable at all. i used to try. But i've kinda given up. i mean, i do jeans and a t-shit well! but like Katy says i'm a dancer and mostly my "dressing up" is putting tights and a leo to go class. i don't wear any make up which some people find strange...
i'm scarred for life from wearing makeup due to my comp kid past... never knew you could cake so much makeup on a ten-year-old!
The only woman pretty enough to go without make-up was Elizabeth Taylor and she wore a ton.
Wow, I just realized how chauvinistic that sounds, haha. It's a line from August: Osage County, for those unfamiliar with the play, that wasn't just me being mean.
i totally knew what you were talking about :) i love that play

"you should wear makeup, you look like a lesbeian"

is another line about make up
August: Osage County. <3
I was totally freaking out when I saw everyone quoting it lol
Everyone knows I'm a theatre person because I always wear jeans and some shirt from a show. :) Either that or a band, but I have mostly show shirts.
I normally end up wearing all black when it gets near laundry time, so people always know i need to wash clothes when i wear blacks for like 4 days...
