i don't get it
Sees like almost every show that's been there since 1990 has cloesed within weeks of its opening
oh i see lol
Not weeks of opening.

The Marquis has hosted a lot of flops but there have been shows there that have done fairly well. To name a few Drowsy Chaperone, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Annie get your gun and Victor/Victoria. All the other shows have not closed within weeks but had healthy (maybe shorter in some views) runs. Both 9 to 5 and come fly away had good runs, they might have not recouped but were recognized as good pieces of theater. The part of the problem is the location of the theater. its in a hotel... its the weirdest place to have a theater and very confusing. But back to the main point, your a over exaggerating... The Marquis is not "cursed" but is in fact a beautiful theater the has hosted some flops and some shows that will never be forgotten.
I don't think the location is the problem at all...in fact that's the least of its problems. You can see the marquee as you're walking through Times Square so it's not like no one knows what's playing there.

The theater is large, the acoustics are terrible, it's ugly, and it is in general not a very good theater. They've had very few critical and financial hits...one of the only ones in recent years was The Drowsy Chaperone.

Very few Broadway shows recoup their money to begin with, but the Marquis is just a crappy theater and it's poorly designed.
well, obviously its not really "cursed" lol - I was just making a point that most shows that have went through didn't have very successful runs. -- and I didn't littereally mean each show closed within like..2 weeks. I was generalizing it, 'cause I wasn't gonna put how long each show lasted. "weeks" could be like, 6 weeks.. or 12 weeks.. or something like that.
9 to 5 did not have a decent run. It barely ran 4 months. That's a pretty horrible run.

But most of the shows that have played there -- regardless of how long they played were indeed flops. But they aren't alone: they Lyceum can't seem to get a success either.

NOTE: the theatrical definition of FLOP is ANY show that does NOT break even financially.
Which is the majority of the shows on Broadway

with the amount of money it takes to put on a show these days, its very hard to recoup the money. "Pretty Horrible" is stretching it. Glory Days run was "pretty horrible." Broadway Bound and Bright Beach runs were "Pretty horrible" Running 4 months, getting 4 tony nominations, 14 drama desk nomination and producing a very good piece of art, i would say is a "decent" run. i saw the show, i loved it and i think it deserved to run longer. The reason it closed was because it took so much money to mount and the sudience wasn't getting filled each night. Sure it was a financial flop, but it was a very good piece of art. thats all that matters
