yeah sorry, read it wrong!
I really liked it, but I couldn't find the one sung by Loni Ackerman on iTunes.
I didn't like the beginning all the much though. but overall it was really fun and upbeat :D
I SOB over The I Love You Song!
I didn't fully understand just how sad it really is until recently, since I'm doing the show. I want to cry whenever I hear it.
I didn't get the full impact either until I got the song on iTunes-- I understood her dad was a terrible father, but I didn't realize that he psychologically abused her. Also, I love the "Mama, mama, mama!"s. Why is it that so many characters have issues with their moms, lol?
Well, this is a Bill Finn musical. Take a look at the mommy issues in most of his shows: Falsettos, A New Brain, Elegies... it's rather a pattern.
I didn't know it was Olive imagining that her parents were saying that they loved her, and that it wasn't really happening when I was only listening to it. Once I realized it when doing the show, I was so sad! And when she gives her prize money for the entrance fee at the end because her dad never gives it to her . . . it's just really depressing. :(

But after listening to the song on the cast recording again, I actually kinda like the version we're doing in our production a little better. It's slower in some parts, especially the beginning, and gives it a more melancholy feeling. But I still love the original recording, too!
As I remember, she doesn't give her prize money as the entrance fee. Panch gives her money out of his own pocket as "prize money" because he knows she couldn't pay the entrance fee since her dad never showed up.

**SPOILER ALERT**
The saddest part of the show for me is when Logaine gets out. Children are brought up with the mentality of "everyone hates a loser," and it's so sad to hear her sing "You hate losers, so do I. I'm a loser, so goodbye." It can be really damaging and you just want to shout, "It's just a fucking spelling bee!!!" But watch documentaries on these kinds of competitions and how much unnecessary pressure is put on the kids to be the best. It's very sad.
Hm. Maybe we changed it around a bit. Or maybe I wasn't really paying attention all week. xD

Yes, I feel so bad for Logaine at that part. :( I want to scream out the same thing. It's so sad to hear her sing that part of the show.
I would say "The I Love You Song" from "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee". The whole show in general is just awesome!
so I'm guessing I should get the I love you song. I've heard of it and I'm getting it now!
any others?
Well I really like Costco from N2N. so fun. I'm not very into Sweeney Todd, but everyone here seems to enjoy it, so I might look into it a little more.
