So I got an email offering discounts on rent tickets for Jan 21-27 while it is playing for a week at the Shubert theater. Wondering why it was playing there, and what spamalot was doing during that time I decided to look into it more and found that playbill has Rent listed as closing Jan 27th ! Does anybody know if Rent is in fact closing and if it is why is it finishing its run at the Shubert and not the Nederlander?

this is news to me. quite a shame really. Rent has such a positive amazing message. although its a bit typical at times.
Don't worry! The Broadway show isn't closing.

You probably received the email titled "50% Discount for RENT at the Shubert Theater". It's actually an email advertising for the tour and not for the Broadway show. In addition, the Shubert Theater mentioned is located in Connecticut and not the Broadway venue. (http://www.capa.com/newhaven/events/event.php?e=20#showtimes)

According to Playbill.com (http://www.playbill.com/events/event_detail/603.html), RENT is still playing open-ended at the Nederlander, so the show isn't closing anytime soon.

Check http://www.siteforrent.com/tourschedule for more details.
I actually take that back. An article from the New York Times says it's closing June 1st. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/16/theater/16broad.html?_r=2&ref...
Yep, it's on Playbill.com too. Some fans think it will extend to make money over the summer and really close in Aug. or Sep. but you never know. So far the last date is June 1st.

I got that email too.
i wouldnt hold your breath. my friend Chelsea tried to order tickets for the last preformance [june 1st] and its already sold out.
yeah i got that email too. when my mom told me it was closing in june i actually cried. for like a while. call me a crybaby. and i know this sounds really corny and stupid to some people, but i feel that rent closing is like finally letting go of jonathan larson. he existed in rent, thats what kept him with us. i feel like now he might be forgotten and i can't have that. im sad i can't be at the last show, but if anyone reading this is lucky enough to be there, at the end of the show it would be so respectfull to jonathan to say thank you. as someone did at the end of the show in the quiet, on its opening night.i think that that would be the right way to end it.
IT'S CLOSING?! wow that stinks! I'm going to have to hurry up and see it soon.
.... its so sad =(
i heard rent was closing for good june first its sad
The June 1st Performance is probably not really sold-out, but rather taken off the market so that they can hold tickets for sale at higher prices, or for celebrities to celebrate the day. I'm fairly certain that they are going to pull out all the stops for the final show. And I doubt that they'll decide to extend, but I'll be happy if I'm wrong.
