So...thoughts on Tim Burton's version of Sweeney Todd? Personally, I liked it. I thought the singing was kind of weak, but I LOVE Stephen Sondheim's music
(he's a genius...)....and I thought Helena Bonham Carter's acting was brilliant! I love her. I thought, overall, the film was beautiful, and I enjoyed it.

Overall I LOVED it. I didn't miss the chorus numbers at all (even though I thought I would). I wish Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter (particularly) were stronger singers but they're Tim Burton's muses. If he was going to do the film, they would have to also. Acting-wise, they were both very sound. At the top of my list of best films for 07 and among my favorite musical adaptations (Chicago is still tops).
It Was OK, But NOTHING Compared To The Shows W/ Angela Lansbury.
I Didn't See A Lot Of Talent In Either Leading Role; They Were Both... BLANK! Toby Was AMAZING, Though.
AND They Cut Out SO Many Songs, Well, At Least PARTS Of Songs! The Actually "Little Priest" Is Over 7min Long.

I Loved It Until I Saw The Version With Angela Lansbury (I <3 Youtube For That!)
If you want to see a great SWEENEY, try to find the video of what I believe is the national company of the original show - with Lansbury and George Hearn. There were a few changes made from the NY production (very few) but if you want to see just how great the show was, this is the way to go. Try a good library - it's worth looking for.

I thought it was great. Johnny Depp is amazing and it was a great movie. I know everyone says the effects were bad (like the blood being really fake) but i think they were just trying to keep it close to the theatre production. I wonder when it'll cme back to broadway. hopefully soon!
I actually really loved the movie, period. But isn't it a suprise that there are two Harry Potter actors in it? I thought it was. Helena and Johnny were both amazing, I watched a clip on youtube of the original Lovett and Todd and I personally thought Carter and Depp did a better job. Epiphany was so well done, it's now my favourite song! I actually thought they all could sing, including Rickman, though Jayne did kinda annoy me, isn't Johanna meant to be pretty? because I personally thought they could have found a better girl to be johanna. Toby was the best, I swear i've seen him before though, does anyone know if he has been in other movies? Jamie was good, though he did irritate me at times.
as just a movie, i think it ws pretty brilliant. but it just cant be compared to the broadway version. it just cant. although i hav to admit, the movie DID freak me out lol
