So...thoughts on Tim Burton's version of Sweeney Todd? Personally, I liked it. I thought the singing was kind of weak, but I LOVE Stephen Sondheim's music
(he's a genius...)....and I thought Helena Bonham Carter's acting was brilliant! I love her. I thought, overall, the film was beautiful, and I enjoyed it.

i thought the judge was a little weak, but everyone cant always be good. Toby and joanna blew me away tho, far better than i ever imagined. The effects sucked hardcore, it was worse than killbill. but all around it was better than most musical movies.
Well, I thought the singing was overall bad (Antony was good). Johanna's singing was kind of weak. Mrs. Lovett couldn't sing. You really can't compare the movie to Michael Cerveris and Patti Lupone playing the lead roles on stage. Also Lauren Molina versis the other Johanna's singing (Lauren has got the singing; no question!). They even cut out the song 'Kiss Me' (My favorite song!). But the movie itself was fine.
yeah...the effects were obviously fake. (like to the point that i just laughed when they happened)...but, I'm wondering if they really wanted it to be that way to just look theatrical or if burton was actually trying to scare people with it. I dunno...I liked the kid that played Toby a lot. I thought he could sing...I was actually kind of bored with Johanna and Antony's parts...good music tho. I just really loved the way Helena played Mrs. Lovett despite the singing. This is the first time she's ever really sung anything, and....even tho it was weak....she was my favorite due to her acting. I want to see this movie again, because - with Sondheim - there's always deeper themes you can find everytime you watch it.
i wish they'd kept "the ballad of sweeney todd" at the beginning. it's classic!
Mixed feelings.
That's all.

Johnny Depp was *shrug* not bad. He wasn't great. I don't think he has as much talent as I used to think he did.
Helena Bonam Carter (sp?) Was fabulous. Best part for me.
Toby was cute. I was pissed at first that he was so small, but he was cute.
Anthony... sucked.
joanna... was pretty. Acted... meh.... not my favorite vocals.
Sasha Cohen... quite good. creepy lumpy looking bulge in his pants though.
Anthony... sucked.
Too much blood that looked fake...
Too much trying to be creepy...
Too much pale skin...
Too much cutting of the good music and keeping some of the lame songs.
Too many close ups on bad teeth... and just faces in general.

*shrug* all in all... not the best 10.50 I've ever spent, but not the worst. I think I'll go buy the Angela Lansbury copy and watch that to refresh myself.

... and i really missed the Ballad of Sweeney Todd. They played the music, but nobody sang. Bad form.

Anthony Sucked... could sing... but sucked.
lol...Cedric, I love you...but I agree on pretty much everything you said. Have i mentioned yet that I LOVE Helena Bonham Carter?! Cuz I do!!!! And I sooooooo agree about the blood. And I did like Toby....they said they had to make him so young because they were playing Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett so young. P.S. Did you delete your facebook?
I was very happy with the way the film turned out. After the first song, I began to like Johnny Depp's voice and inner restraint. Loved Mrs. Lovett. (Although Angela Landsbury is my all-time fave). Tobias was chillingly good. My gripe: I wish they had kept more of the wit in the music and in the dialogue...but often film adaptations make many cuts to keep the pace moving. Still, I missed the humor. I re-listened to the OBC and I enjoyed listening to all the parts that were missing from the movie. Like...What happened to all of the choral numbers in the film? They weren't there. Cutting room floor? Anyone know why??? Sondheim composed some great choral songs/parts in Sweeney (Ballad, God That's Good, City On Fire, etc.) The chorus really adds to the complexity of the music. So many layers...but it's not in the film. I really missed hearing them instead of all of the solos and duets. After listening to the original version, I realize that there is SO many more "tasty bits" in Sweeney Todd that's not in the film - probably on the cutting room floor. But all in all I think it was a great adaptation. Great acting by all. Worth seeing more than once.
Thought it was great, acting isnt always about singing like most people think, they were great! Everyone! Thought each one brought it to the "stage!" I thought the vision that Burton had was his usual, but yet different, the "fake blood look" was a good add, the music of course, very well adapted! Ps> for the negative singing comments, they were hired for the reason that they weren't amazing, thats not the vision they were going for, its not in their characters! Didn't really love Anthony, but he was ok. A bit graphic, and bloody, but I thought the overall picture was brilliant and i thought it was the best Burton film, since I usually hate them!
I thought the movie was brilliant. It was fun to see a full out production after only being exposed to the recent revival.
Helena Bonham Carter's acting was fabulous! The singing was fair. Not fabulous, but it wasn't painful to listen to. the only song I didn't like was 'Green Finch and Linnet Bird'. Johanna's voice just wasn't there. I LOVED Toby! So sweet, he was. I'm planning to see it again this weekend and my mother is too, which says a lot of good about the film because she can't stand repeated viewings of a movie.

YAY Sweeney!!!
i think that tha singing in the movie was not as good as it could be i do think that the boy hit the notes better then johnny
i liked it. i thought the singing could have been stronger/better but johnny depp and helena did a good job with what their vocal abilites are. It was really bloody and the effects were amazing. That little kid, toby, was good. I wanna see it again!
to words the end of the movie when he would kill someone i would laugh so hard. i give mr depp the credit for playing a wonderful part. it did bring back memories of edward siccorhands and some sleepy hollow. i did enjoy it especially the music.
