i like them both. i sang popular for a show last summer and it was so fun to get into character!
cool
I wouldn't sing either for an audition if my life depended on it. Talk about suicide. I'm sure that casting directors et al are so sick of hearing songs from Wicked they could just spit! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Wicked and am finally seeing it ON Broadway in April when I take my 9 year old niece to the city for her first time. But, there are so many great and NOT overused songs out there that are just as powerful as the two you mentioned. That being said, when I am singing in my car, I prefer to belt out Gravity at the top of my lungs, much to the chagrin of the neighboring cars!
haha thats the spirit
Yeah! Wicked was very poplur when i went to my acting camp it was a lot of wicked!! and for the past few years it has been that way. All plays have a song that the people singing it just belt out to!
I agree with broadway bob. Wicked is an amazing show, but so many people are doing it and so few have the pipes of idina or kristin. Also, I have always been taught that you should never sing a song from a show that is currently playing on broadway for an audition unless specifically asked.
well it is..in my case.
I love both but you should never use them in a professional audition unless they are calling for that. Sometimes they give you a style to choose from or they will ask for a song from the show. But besides that I'd say its a big no no. I personally prefer to hear those songs in Cabarets, Recitals or Revues...BUT only sing them if you know you can pull it off. You don't want someone to be thinking "uh-o" when you come to the big belty sections. If you want to use them in an audition for a regional theater/community theater setting you probably could...but be aware of the piano. Unless the piano player is extremely good they might not be able to play "Popular" as it is fast and complicated. So in that case I would go with Defying Gravity. Whatever you do don't walk in with the Karaoke and ask to sing with that. It is a big no no as well. If the theater is asking you to bring a taped accompaniment then I would say thats fine. RED FLAG: Always ask around about companies that do not offer a accompanist for auditions. In my experience sometimes there is no experienced music director on staff and you might end up with a cd during rehearsals or a overzealous director with ambitions far to large for the capability of the theatre. It is not impolite to ask about these things if you go about them in the right way.
well i sung defying gravity last summer at a camp and it was a huge challenge but it was so fun to get mad. lol but i like them both im just more of an elphie (thats what i named my green ipod lol in such a nerd) tehe

Both but the one I love to perform more? Popular. It is fun and a great . DG is amazing but in a different way. It is so powerful and I love it.
I prefer Defying Gravity.
Well Defying Gravity has such a huge ammount of enegry, but Poplur is more playful and it really depends on the persons voice! but i love bolth!! (DUH)
