So I'm going to New York with my Journalism class and were seeing two shows - West Side Story (IM SO FREAKING EXCITED!) ...and..... Mamma Mia...

First of all, I hated the movie. Second of all, I've heard that it's not very good. THIRD, which is what I'm most worried about, is that it says on broadway.com... "this is one Broadway show where singing along (and dancing in the aisles) is encouraged."

...Do people actually do that!? And if you've seen the show, what do you think of it?

only at the end do they sometimes dance (i've seen it twice) i loved both the movie and the show its my favorite
when I went no one did that, thank goodness! but I'm sorry to say that I didn't like it. at first, it was sort of entertaining. then after a while it just became a big blur of flashy costumes hearing songs I've heard a million times and I don't think belong in theatre. as much as I love ABBA, I wish the music would stay away from Broadway! no part of the musical touched me or made me particularly exicted about it in the least.

You're so lucky that you're seeing West Side Story!!! Let us know how it is!!!
Yeah, same here. I gew up on Abba but...musical? Eh.

And I will definitely let everyone know how WSS is! Im so excitged. Were seeing it in March so itll still be fresh!
I love Mamma MIa....its amazing!!!!'
I danced in the isles to dancing queen...lol
I like Abba's music, but the musical bores and frustrates me. The ending makes you question why they even bothered, but mostly...it's just really weird. But you might like it, you never know.

But do tell on West Side Story. I'm interested in knowing what people think of the revival.
I really liked the Mamma Mia movie thats a play i definitley want to see on Broadway

i'm also interested to hear what you think of West Side Story. I've only seen the movie never the play so im interested to hear what you think of the play and how it differs from the movie.
The stage production made ALOT MORE SENSE than the movie did. The songs were placed perfectly. They didn't make sense in the movie. Like our last summer is supposed to be between Sam (i think) and Donna but in the movie, it's in the beginning and between the guys and Sophie. How does Sophie know that he works in bank? I mean, come on! And Take a Chance on Me is supposed to be BEFORE the wedding. Not after. I honestly liked the stage version better than the movie. The Sophie was weak but the rest of the cast was good. Especially Donna and her friends. My mom and I fell in love with the woman who played Rosie. No one danced in the isles when I was there... I also heard that they come out into the stage but no one did. Shuler did for Young Frankenstein but that's it. I really suggest Mamma Mia. It makes alot more sense and flows better than the movie. But the movie soundtrack is better than the OBCR... The song Slipping Through My Fingers had me and my mother sobbing because I'll be moving away from her in 3 months and she just got diagnosed with Diabeties. So it's very hard to not cry when I hear the song or think of the lyrics. My mother means the world to me and I'm really gonna miss her... But Broadway is my dream. And she wants it so badly for me. I want to make her proud.
I, for one, loved the movie. I had a grand old time bouncing in my seat and laughing my ass off.

However, I don't think it's right to charge Broadway prices for what is--essentially--a really fun and forgettable summer movie. Which is what made the movie so wonderful for me. It was goofy, irreverent and completely ridiculous. I won't go see it on Broadway, unless one of my really good friends gets in it... and even then, maybe not.

I mean, I hope you have a good time, because I'd hate for anyone to spend money on a theatre ticket and not have a good time. But I don't really think it has any place on Broadway.
i happened to see it with a amazing cast on tour in 2006 at the end there was some dancing in the seats . It depends who you see in the show that will make you love it or hate it, i loved it, but then again i hated the obc but loved the cast i saw .
i think its really bad///////
I actually really liked both! Mamma Mia was my first Broadway musical and I saw it one i was about 8 or 9. now i know what youre thinking, yeah you were 8 or 9. but now im 15 and i saw the movie and i still liked it. i though it was good, but everyone has their own personal taste for shows so it all depends. you may love it or hate it! hope you have a good time though! hopefull west side story is good. the daughter in law of the directors of my local theater company is playing anita!!! so exciting!
I saw the show last year January 2007 on Broadway- there were no people singing and dancing in the aisle..I actually like the show..I love Carolle Carmelo (has a beautiful voice) and her rendition of THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL is worth the price of admission. It was not as bad as people are saying. There's a problem with the book.. but if youre going w/ bunch of classmates- most likely you will enjoy the show!
