totally.
i love the movie, and saw the show in LA and absolutely ADORED it. it's absolutely phenomenal.
i love the whole meaning behind it.

one of my top 10 favorite shows also
The bway revival was amazing - personally i hated the movie!
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I didn't like Helena Bohem Carter that much. It was hard to understand her. I loved Alan Rickman and Sasha ...(whatever his last name is), the little boy, the handsome young man that sang Johanna, and of course Johnny. I loved the whole concept of black and white and color when Miss Lovett is dreaming.
Sweeney Todd is the best show ever.

Read my OBC recording review at http://josephgomez.blogspot.com/2008/01/my-amazoncom-review-of-swee...
It rocked of course...Tim Burton=SCHWEET!
Just saw the show for the second time this past weekend and i'm still convinced its one of the greatest shows ever. Lauren Molina is just brilliant. I also had the best seats in the world (6th row center in the orchestra pit cuz its raised for seating) so I could see every little detail. I think the movie is awesome but totally different from the stage versions. Tim Burton is very.... unique. :)
I absolutely loved it! i saw it when it came to portland and i loved how each character played an instrument! the movie was good, but the musical is way better
I loved the movie. i so wish i could go to NY and see it on bway
SWEENEY TODD WAS ONE OF VERY BEST MOVIES I'VE SEEN. WAS SO HAPPY JOHNNY DEPP WON THE OSCAR.

I DO FEEL HELENA BONHAM-CARTER DESERVED THE OSCAR NOD, TOO.
The Sweeney Todd movie was good...leaning more towards ok/mediocre. I never knew Johnny Depp had it in him to sing that well. Helena Bonham-Carter's voice was...ehh. It got a bit squeaky as she went for the high notes in "Poor Thing," but otherwise she did a good job playing the hopeless romantic. I don't like the fact that they hacked off chunks of songs and cut out entire scenes for time. You barely see Johanna at all in the movie, much less learn about her personality. (Hint hint.)

I personally think that the musical is better.
Well first of all I think Johnny Depp is one of the industry's better actors. Diverse, talented, experienced, not afraid to take chances. HBCarter is adorable - well not in this necessarily. I liked the movie. Did the show many years ago local college Summer theater did it. Had a minor role but loved the show. I LIKE the movie but the ONLY thing I can't swallow is Johnny and HBC looking OLD enough to be in the positions they're in. Johnny (Sweeney) suffered years in prison. Mrs. Lovett should even perhaps be older than Sweeney. I had the hardest time getting past how youthful they looked - but when I was able to get past it - their performances were good. And for Johnny who NEVER EVER sang a song in his life - to take on Sondheim in THIS role - well consummate actor in my book. I DID like Rickman. He is always the most sinister, evil character going and he plays it to the hilt. The guy who did the Beadle as well, just greasy and slimy and soooo believable. VERY good actors all. AND even like the stage production, ALL the slit throat deaths except Judge Turpins looked sufficiently gory and bloody, but equally as bogus as could be. I mean the effects were great, the DEATHS were just a little corny...but then what are you gonna do in two or three lines of a song? STILL I like the stage play, Sondheim, Depp, Carter so much, that I don't care how it was done, I still think it was cool. I MISS the Judge's song and SO few do it - it's just creepy and should be in all stage productions. When I did the show, the director left it in and it was just as creepy as ever. NO APPLAUSE in ANY show we did either - the audience just cringed, the rest of us got goose-bumps it was so randy and gross. But we loved that.
